A Shaper Machine are those machines tool used for providing flat surfaces on horizontal, vertical & inclined work piece with the help of single point cutting tool.

Here single point cutting tools moves in forward and backward direction and makes a linear cuts  by the help of ram cutting tool drive and flating the surface, during cutting work piece are stationary clamped on work table.

A reciprocating motion are seen on the ram due to which it provides resultant flat surfaces on work piece. In whole machining process shaper machine parts play an important role for achieving flat surfaces on work piece

When ever tool moves forward it cuts material from work piece and during backward it removes the cutted material from work piece and thus complete its job.

Parts of a Shaper-

Shaper consist following parts-

1. Base-

The base are the strongest parts of shaper, it is lower part and support column, ram, work table, drive machanism etc. Base are made up of heavy cast iron.

2. Column, Pillar or body-

The shape has a column which carries ram slideways, motor, speed gear box,  levers,  handles, the crank and slotted link mechanism are also attach in column.

3. Cross Rail-

Cross rail made from heavy casting carries horizontal table sideways which is mounted on vertical slideways of column.

Cross rail are to be adjusted according to work piece thick as its movement are raised upward or downward through a elevating screw.

4. Saddle-

Saddle are connected with cross rail, it's function is to support table and provide work piece stability, if saddle move crosswise then it affect work table move sideways.

5. Table-

Table are rectangular shaped structure where t-slots are marked on the upper surface and one side down surface

Table are bolted along with saddle it's vertical and crosswise movement are completed through cross rail and saddle.

6. Ram-

Ram is located on top of column, Ram has a slides it's movement  are from back and forth type. Ram consist slotted link mechanism, stroke positioning mechanism and downfeed mechanism.

7. Tool Head-

Tool Head are the cutting tool holding component, it can be move vertically and angular feed, it is present in front of ram and slotted by T-bolts. Tool head contains hand feed by which it can be raised or  lowered for vertical cuts on work piece.

Shaper Work Holding Devices-

1. Vices-

A shaper vices are designed in such a manner that consist slides and moving jaw. Shaper vices shaped as large and deep, it can be easily adjusted for large work piece  which would machined through shaper.

2. Parallel Strips-

Parallel strips provide support and clearance to the part With projection also raise surface to be machining to a standard height. Parallel strip are available in different variety, shape and size.

3. Clamps-

Clamps are used in shaper where large size  work piece are bring for machining and which can not be held in shaper vice so by the help of clamps work piece are held on table.

4. Angle Plate-

Angle plate are a fixture where bloting are used on both sides for fixing work piece as one side of plate is bolted to the table and other side bolted with work piece.

5. Vee Blocks-

Shaping of round and small work piece required proper adjustments so that Vee blocks are used, the work piece are adjusted between v-block and a horizontal alignment provided with respect to vice table and v-block then movement of cutting tool provided between vee-block so that work piece get required shaped.

6. Stop Pins and Toe Dogs-

Stop pin are used for  thin work piece which are put in the slot of table on each side of work piece and the dog are used for tighting the stop pin screw.

Shaper Cutting Tools-

The cutting tool used in shape are similar to lathe machine  tool, it can also be ground off hand for providing sharpness of tool.

a little difference found that  Shaper tool has large nose radius than lathe tools and back rack angle of the shaper tool is negatively ground.

Different types of shaper tool Are-

1. Roughing tools and finishing tools.

2. Straight and cranked neck tools.

3. Left hand and right hand tools.

4. Round nose, Straight nose and flat nose tools.

5. Slot cutting and side recessing tools.

These are the shaper tool which are used according to the types of work piece.

Conclusion-

Shaper are widely used in metal industry for providing required shape to work piece. Shaper are the need for machine workshop, it converts proper finishing to work with high accuracy, during  operation shaper machine parts perform main role for achieving desired result. In this over all process a skilled man are required who are able to observe correct dimension to conversion of work piece and can be daily practices on attending these type  job completion so that a desired result will be obtained.
